The shiny POS: thread size question
Won a spanish La Coruna in a local auction for $90. Seller advertised as poor, pitted bore......which indeed it did have.
Odd thing though, the outside bluing and wood were in perfect, 98% condition. A polished turd I suppose. Usually if the bore is wrecked, the rest of the gun is nasty looking too.
Just goes to show what corrosive ammo left untreated will do.
I will give it a shot to see if it is a lost cause, but mainly got it to use as a project gun. Question: does the Spanish 98 action La Coruna M1943 Mauser have standard large ring Mauser threads? I have a military profile Wilson 308 barrel in my shop, barrel vice and wrench, and headspace gauge. I'm good to go to spin it on, the only trouble I'll have is if it is out of headspace, then it will have to go to a smith.
Thanks,
Jon

Yes, the Spanish "La Coruna" M43 Mauser uses the typical large ring action.

Indeed, it really doesn't take a lot of corrosive ammo fired to totally rot out a barrel.
If you look at the surplus Mosin-Nagant rifles, most of these were "re-arsenalled", meaning polished and reblued. Externally, many of these are so nice they literally look like they just came out of the factory. But internally, the bore looks like a sewer pipe!0
