Smith & Wesson Pistols

Just thought some of you might like to know, I contacted Smith & Wesson regarding the fact that currently they are not marketing any of their traditional metal frame, double action, hammer fired, auto loading pistols and their response was that they will be introducing new versions of some of their traditional pistols soon...

    I have two pistols, they are alike except one is blued, the other is nickle plated, they are snub nose 38, 5 shot revolvers, I don,t know

    Thanks Nunn. That is a shame. So is Ruger now the only U.S. manufacturer of an all metal, double action, hammer fired pistol?

    Holy Cow! I must be late to the party on this--I didn't know they stopped production on those style guns either! Should be TONS of them available on the used market for the next 20 years but SOME of them might just turn out to be collectible.

    I've had my good ol' M59 since 1987. I've worn out a few parts, but they were replaced at the factory and it just keep on chugging. In my last plate match I had one primer ftf. So, just before racking the slide I pulled the trigger again double action, and got a good ignition. I do like the double strike capability of the M39/59 guns. You don't need them very often, but it's nice to have. Besides, they just look good too.

    They did make some nice autos like the 41 & 52. I miss the old revolvers with "hammer nose" firing pins and no locks.

    If you are in the market, look on the auction side, and look fast, as the supply is dwindling.

    I too like the S&W pistols and have begun to add a few to the never-ending "collection".. I had actually thought a couple of years back that one day, S&W "real metal" pistols would bring a good dollar. My thought is if you can pick up quality condition models in the box, they will rise in value over the years. At least I hope that's what happens. Otherwise, I will have an investment that doesn't pan out.

    EDIT:
    PLUS ONE on the 10 mm. I have a 1006 (which I love to shoot)!!

    I sure loved their 10xx series. Those 10mm's were built like a tank and could fire a lifetime of the powerful 10mm loads. I collected the whole set - one of which only 151 were made.

    There were actually quite a few of the 10xx series made. Between the 1006, 1086, and 1076. I know there were more of the 1076's made than 151, as that was the one the FBI acquired for a very short period of time. I sold 12 of them and never kept one for myself. They were being marketed as LE trade in's, and most of them were NIB with NOVAK night sights. I was paying the distributor $279.00 a copy....hindsight!
