Winchester 86?
Picked up a nice 1886 carbine. The stock had been badly broken sometime a long time ago and was just as badly repaired (bolts through the wrist). The gun was made in 1892 Serial #70XXX. Two questions, 1, The caliber is 40-65 and Madis's book says that there were very few of these made in carbines so does this add a premium to the price all other things being equal. 2, There is no saddle ring on the receiver and no indication that there was one. Did all carbines have the saddle ring. Lastly, anyone have a carbine stock?

The first thing I would do is get on the phone with Cody and verify that the serial number letters as a 40-65 WCF Carbine. I have not yet seen a Model 1886 Carbine without a saddle ring, but I am sure that at least a few were made. 0 -
I called Cody unfortunately I am not a member and only they have access to phone inquries. A letter for a nonmember is 60.00 so I have a call in to a friend and hopefully he can make the call. If it is worth it I will go ahead with a letter at a later date. 0
