Iver Johnson (for WEG)

I have been researching this Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works pistol that I have. It only has Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works, Fitchburg, Mass. There are no patent markings anywhere. The only numbers on the pistol is under the left grip and it shows what appears to be an "F" (but it almost just looks like a symbol), then after that, it has the numbers 62 4 61. Is this possibly early 1900's? Someone has carved the owls off of the grips. The only other number is above the cylinder and they appear to match the numbers under the grip. It is a five shot with a hammer that can't be cocked. Any help you can send me would be appreciated. This is a family gun. Thanks!!

    Posting a picture would be worth a thousand words. Possibly with a image a expert like Mr Goforth could help your family hierlom quest.

    without a picture i can only tell you the F letter code was used on the small frame 32 S&W caliber in 1899 and then again in 1902 and 1903.
    1899 patent dates were on the top of the barrel rib
    1902 patent dates were on the left side of the barrel (very lightly marked)
    1903 patent dates were on the bottom of the butt.

    Pictures? See if anyone at home is (or has used) Photobucket, or any site to store photos.

    If so, they'll walk you through converting the photo to 'computer language', and transferring the photos to this forum.

    You can't directly place photos to this forum from your computer.

    Also, at the head of the forums, is an instruction tutorial for photo placement through one of the photo storage websites...and they are at no cost to you!!
