Iver Johnson DOM
Picked up another new toy today. Iver Johnson hammerless in .38 S&W. Serial #D630x. Any Idea of a DOM? I will have the gun in hand tomorrow and relate the barrel markings and any other info.

the D letter code was used on both the second model and third model.
this revolver need to be compared to those in the book to decide which it is.

I picked up the revolver this morning. There is in fact no "D" in the serial number. I was going from the paperwork I recieved from the gun shop.
Here is a little more info:
top of barrel reads
IVER JOHNSON ARMS AND CYCLE WORKS
-FITCHBURG MASS USA-
No other markings on barrel
.38 S&W, 3-1/4" barrel, 5 shot, blued
S/N 6304 (on triggerguard)
Also has patent dates on bottom of frame (hard for these old eyes to make out)
Any rough idea of when it was made would be great.

the main serial number location is on the left side of the grip frame under the grips. remove grips to see.
the serial number on the bottom of the trigger guard was not added until 1904. it is looking good for a third model. as the D letter code on the second models was last used in 1902.
when you remove the grips to check the grips look at the hammer spring single leaf =second model, coil =third model.
i do not mean to be evasive about this but in some cases an iver johnson safety automatic revolver can be hard to identify and all first and second models were designed for black powder cartridges pressures only, only the third models are safe with modern ammo.

Once again, I am learning more and more about these little pistols. I pulled the grips off and found D6304 and a coil spring. I am guessing a third model, safe to shoot smokeless. To be honest, this is the first Iver Johnson I've owned. I have a few H&R's a couple of top break S&W's and other fodder in the bottom of the toy box. 0 -
this is a third model safety automatic hammerless revolver. serial number D 6304 was made in 1910, there were 21,300 manufactured that year of this model.
