Any sig armorers in here?

I have a Sig Pro 2340 it is the older model with the internal claw extractor

the extractor has gone bad and is flopping around inside the slide

from the looks of it I just need to pull the old one out and slap the new one in but I though I would ask if there is some secret trick or tool needed to do this before I commence

    If I'm not mistaken I believe nunn is a SIG armorer-might want to ask him.

    There is a pin, part #7 in the parts diagram, that goes through the slide that has to be removed first to get the firing pin, spring, block+spring and extractor out.

    I thought that might be the case but thought I would check before driving it out

    Wow you have really got to smack that pin to get it out

    FFR the pro does not have a block like other sig pistols that comes out once you tap out the pin holding in the firing pin in place

    the extractor is pressure set into a milled grove in the under side of the slide

    Nunn said it should pop out with a screw driver

    that was going to be my first inclination but I didn't want to go monkey it out and "F" something else up

    It's been awhile since I've done much work on a 2340 and I don't have my tech manuals handy, but what Nunn say's about the extractor sounds like it's the same basic setup as on the older, folded/two piece slide versions 'Classic' series pistols (220, 226, 228).

    A point to consider is that if these extractors are in fact the same design you don't need to be removing it unless you have to. On the Classic series pistols SIG designates this type of extractor as a sacrificial part. In other words, once removed it should be replaced with a new one.
