I have a 26" older Ruger Red Label. Its an excellent gun for clays, birds etc. I like the 26" max length for all my shotguns. It swings well for skeet and birds.

Powder in pretty much all sporting loads is burned up in about 22" give or take so your not going to loose any velocity with a 26".

I had an all-weather 28" Red label and found it was too barrel heavy. I had one of the early ones and it was also too shiney though the later ones are much better. Over the years I too have come to the conclusion that 28" is just too long though all of my 12 gauge guns still have that length.

I like the 26" bbls on red labels, they dont flop open as bad as the 28's.

Thank you for the replies. I was leaning toward the 26" but your insight helps to confirm that choice.
