Super Range Goose Gun

Hello all. I am inquiring about a gun my father-in-law has had in his possession for 40+ years. There are engravings on the gun that say Super Range Goose Gun. It is a single barrel 12 gauge. I think it may have been offered through Sears. Any information about this gun would be appreciated as he is retiring and looking to sell his possessions and I just want to make sure he doesn't just give his guns away. Thanks for any help.

    Your gun is a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. That is a shotgun that was made by a major maker for and was sold by a wholesaler or retailer who chose the name to go on the gun.
    Guns with the name SUPER RANGE GOOSE GUN were made by the Stevens Arms & Tool Company. There are no tables to tell just when this gun was made but Stevens used the Name Stevens Arms & Tool Company between 1886 and 1916. Also I haven't been able to find out if there was a wholesaler or retailer who sold the gun but Sears would be a good guess. Value? If your father-in-law gives you the gun it will have more value to you than its sales value which depending on condition might be about $75

    Your gun is on sale at Sears. Reduced from $4.35 to only $3.98 !!!!
    OH!! OH!!! That is on page 305 of the 1902 catalog......might not be valid today.[:0]

    +1. Trade name used by Sears. Actual manufacturer could be Hopkins & Allen, Stevens, and several others. Pre-1940.

    Again, according to my research guns with the name SUPER RANGE GOOSE GUN were made by the Stevens Arms & Took Company. The gun in the illustration was made by Stevens. That can be confirmed by the shape of the butt stock where it joins the receiver/frame. There are two semi-curlicuar projections (one on each side) that fit into simular cutouts in the metal of the receiver. The buyer must have badly wanted that gun to have paid $277 for it. I won't pay over $100 for any old single barrel "Trade Brand Name" shotgun.
