Old Marlin 22
I ran across an old marlin 22, [:0] My question is, What model it is what year it was made, and How much is it worth... This is the only marking on the gun it says The Marlin Firearms Corporation, New Haven.USA/patented and 22 long rifle only/smokeless greased. It is a semi automatic with 7 round clip. Also it is in very good condition. I think it might be a model A1, but not sure.[?]

Needless to say, its impossible to answer these questions without a **LOT** more information.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'd suggest taking one (or better yet, MORE than one. . .under good lighting and from a variety of angles), and posting it here, and I think you'll be quite pleased at the quality of responses you get.

Despite my profound ignorance of firearms, I'll try to squeeze some blood out of your turnip.
Historically, guns were not required to carry serial numbers until the Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed.
Since you say that this gun has no markings on it other than the ones listed above that means it has no serial number, and therefore its fair to conclude it was manufactured prior to 1968. Lots of low end rifles made prior to that date (including Marlins) were not stamped with serial numbers.
So this only leaves a couple of models to choose from, including the A1 you mentioned, but also the model 50 that preceded it. Model 50 was only made for a few years from 1931-35 and even then in limited numbers. The A1 was made from 1936 until some time after the war, with wartime production discontinued.

Based on your thin description, my guess is that you're probably right that this what you have. Is it? You tell me.
The A1 came in different variants, depending on sights, etc. Again, impossible to determine which variant (if any) you have without more information.
FWIW, this is what a model 50 looks like. The location of the take down screw and safety are different:
Value? That depends on which exact variant you have and what condition its in. Again, impossible to answer this without more information.
In GENERAL, the model A1s were low-end guns that don't generate a lot of collector's interest. Assuming your gun is in functional shape and isn't too worn out cosmetically, I'd say its worth maybe $75-125.
If the gun doesn't work. . .you're looking at $50 MAX value. Parts for these aren't cheap and a non-functional gun is not going to have much value at all.[/email]0 -

Beantown was not being rude but being practical. The info you gave( or lack of it) could cover a half a dozen different Marlin rifles. YOu don't have to know about the rifle but you must give more description info if you want a true answer to your question.
As said before, several clear pictures should be able to provide people on here with enough to give you a answer. And for the record, Beantown does know a few things about firearms.0 -

Anyway, Hillbilly wrote me back and apparently he DOES have an old Marlin A1.
For what its worth ".22 long rifle only - smokeless greased" was a standard disclaimer on lots of older semi-auto guns, including Marlin, Remington, Stevens, etc.0 -
HillbillyKY in part had a point, people from that part of the country want to get to the point not listen to a lot of rattlen on for a half hour to tell him he need prictures and a better discription. When the items are posted then rattle on for a half hour!
