1957 State Police Special?

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of the 1957 State Police Special handgun? My mom used to own one, until my dad gave it away to my uncle a long time ago. Needless to say she was slightly pissed off about the deal. Anyway, I want to buy one for her for Christmas, and I cannot find anything about it. I think it may have been a .38? She said it had a long barrel. I don't know anything about guns, and I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

    It was more than likely a comemerative done for your local state police. I have seen a ruger in 22 cal. done for the west virginia state police. It may be hard to pin down exactly,If you are still on speaking terms with the uncle ask him if he still has it, or at least the make and model as you would like to get your mother another.

    It may have been a commemorative- OR- and this is a stretch- it may have been a Colt Trooper (some of us in the South refer to State Policemen as "Troopers") Do a google image search for Colt Trooper.

    S&W also did a small run of what they called the mld "520" back int he day for the NY State Police. Large frame revolver, 357, all done as a special order which was cancelled right before delivery took place.

    If this is what you are after, a local shop has one in the box w/ letter from S&W ... I can arrange to have it show up on auction...
