C. G. Bonehill 10 ga.

concrete guy
I just purchased a 10 ga. double barrel hammer gun made by C. G. Bonehill. In between the barrels are the words "patent steel through lug C. G. Bonehill London. I am not looking to sell just wanting to learn about the gun and if it will handle modern ammo after a refurbish. Number on gun is 20337.

    Nice old gun but I for one would NEVER fire modern shells in it . If you do want to shoot I would look into getting it sleeved with full length inserts in a smaller Ga. like a 16Ga. or 20 Ga. sleeve.


    EDIT" if sleeved is it reversible [?](IMHO) NO . will it lessen the Value[?]Again IMHO NO it will make the gun shootable with modern shells . I believe the gun has already been refinished at least one time since made and currently NOT a high dollar SHOTGUN nice quality Yes but far from being a Museum piece. My statements are My opinion and others may have a different take. Karl.

    damascus twist not for modern shells...but there is an outfit that makes shells just for thoses older shotguns

    If you sleeve it, is that irreversible? I imagine it kills the value of the gun doesn't it?

    G.C. Bonehill was an English gun maker from 1872 to about 1900. Refurbishing is not going to change the technology or the metal used to make the gun. It has damascus barrels and was designed for black powder loaded shells and lead, not steel shot. It will have 2 1/2 inch chambers, not 3 inch. The gun was made over 100 years ago. While these old English made guns were quality made when new, they aren't safe to shoot using any modern ammunition.

    The barrels seem to be slightly pitted. I haven't had time to clean it up yet to have a good look.
