Want to get into compition .22 rifle shooting
Hi, ya'll!
I've been wanting to get into some shooting competitions with my Winchester 52C, but I haven't had any formal training, and I'm kinda intimidated by the skill level I might go up against. I think I'm a pretty fair shooter, but I have no comparison. What is the best way to get started?

Just go to a match; new shooters are always welcomed. You will shoot in the unclassified or lowest level category. Matches are divided into Classes so that a shooter is always shooting against other shooters of the same skill level. As your scores improve you are moved into the next higher class. It is all determined by your official match scores. 0 -
Just go, it does not matter AT ALL how good you are now, you will improve while you learn. Competitive shooting is a lot of fun and the most challenging thing you can do.
NRA Three Position indoor rifle matches are held all winter long. If you live near a population center you can count on matches being held nearby.0 -
I live in central Florida, about an hour and a half from Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville. Thanks for the information! Do I have to join some sort of group or club, or can a just register match by match? Also, is there a site that would show all the nearby matches? 0 -
I know the Orlando club shoots smallbore. Next match is Sept 4.

The Wyoming Antelope Club in Clearwater has a smallbore Junior program but I don't know if they shoot .22s for adults.

Gateway in Jacksonville lists benchrest and silhouette but not "conventional" prone or position shooting.
