Dutch(used) Ivor Johnson rev.'s and H&R pistols

Just new on this forum, I already have a question ;-))

I am looking for all sorts of information on the Ivor Johnson revolvers and on the H&R pistols that were purchased by the (Dutch) West Indies authorities for the protection of the Dutch West (& East!) Indies.

I understand that Dr. Goforth is the expert on this subject and that I am to ask my question to him via this forum. Of course anybody who has information for me can react.

    first let me say i am not a doctor, only a retired gunsmith. the information on the dutch purchases of iver johnson for the dutch east indies is; they were either intercepted by the japanese or diverted to the dutch west indies. the diverted arms would have gone to sarinam dutch weat indies. there is no evidence (so far) any H&R's were purchased.

    as stated in my book on iver johnson this information come indirectly from a book on dutch colonial armament 1897-1942 by mr b. martens and mr. g. devires. i recieved this information from mr. m. willemsen the asst. curator of the "royal netherlands army navy mueseum" in delft, netherlands. he also sent three pictures of iver johnson handguns in this mueseum which are included in the iver johnson book.

    i would say there is still information needed in this area but because of lack of factory records it may never come to light.

    if you are from the continent you may have access to the above book on dutch colonial arms. the information in my book is far too much to discuss here but the book can be purchased form www.gunshowbooks.com

    Thank you very much for your (quick) reply!
    I thought that you were a Doctor because, if I am not mistaking, somebody told me so.
    Well, if I look at the publications, you have made, I think many doctors can not match you knowledge!
    Regarding the Ivor Johnsons; that's funny, I know Mathieu Willemsen very well and I thought that he got the information from you! OK, I will contact him to ask about the revolvers in the Army Museum.
    I do think that H&R revolvers were purchased because the Indies Army actually made instruction manuals (I have pics I can send you). This however doesn't proof that the pistols were dilivered. Further research on thsi subject is neede....

    i believe that some of the H&R semiatuomatic 7.65mm may have been purchased but have no proof.

    Hi Bill,

    Well, that's one more mystery to solve.... ;-))

    I have a friend who has a Dutch Indies (D.I.'s) manual for the H&R, so the guns must have been bought. Knowing a little bit of the processes in the D.I's, they only made manuals if the guns where ordered.

    I myself have a D.I.'s holster for, I believe, the Iver Johnson. It is definitely not for any other D.I.'s gun. In a few weeks I will visit M. Willemsen at the Dutch Army museum and we will try to fit the Iver Johnsons (in their collection) in the holster. I sure will let you know on the outcome of this, OK
