8mm-06
an uncle passed away and his son gave me a rifle he brought home from WWII. A Mauser in a mahnlicker stock, set triggers, bolt action..that was orignally a 8mm but he had rechambered to 8mm-06 (.323 bullet /'06 case)rifle is in pristine condition and I'd like to take off the peep sight and mount a scope base...does anyone know which base it would take (Mauser 98 large ring is my guess)?

There are many available the most common and easier to mount is the one piece Leupold/Burris (same maker different label) about $20.00. takes Leupold regular rings of varying sizes. Most places like Midway carry them.
I like the two piece better because there is no bridge over the action but it requires more precise alignment to get them right.
You will have to turn down the bolt and besides notching the wood amy have to cut into the receiver to get the bolt down further unless you go with the extra high rings (recommend)

I meant Leupold/Redfield not Burris.

Notice that the Redfield is $2.00 less than the Leupold. Trust me, they are the exact same mount not one thing different but the label
Two piece sets:
