    Gun_Searcher,

You can answer this yourself if you use a snug cleaning patch on a cleaning rod with a ball bearing handle.

Use a jag on the rod and put a patch on the end. Start the patch into the rifling but stop to wrap a piece of tape around the rod where it starts into the barrel. Put another piece of tape around the rod near the handle with a mark on the tape at the top. Start pushing the rod through the barrel but stop when the mark has made one revolution. Put another wrap of tape around the rod at beginning of the barrel again and finish pushing the patch through. Measure the distance between the two pieces of tape which represents your twist in inches.

    Best.

the barrel is hammerforged 41V45 steel, is hard chrome lined and has a 1 in 7 ROT.

One of my favorite heavy bullets 68-69 grain BTHP. light bullets 45 grain barnes TSX.

A 1-8, 1-9 or 1-12 ROT would better accomodate the lightest 30, 35, and 40 grain bullets, which you could load to 3,800+FPS from a 16" barrel.

I like fast light and thin jacketed better then heavy and slow in a home defense rifle chambered in 5.56 or .308win.

As a point of general explanation:

ORD4150, ORD4150-Resulferized, and Chrome-Moly-Vanadium (CMV) should not be confused with the generic term of a Chrome Moly barrel. The opinion of the US Government (as defined by the Mil-Spec) is that one of the three is not better than the others. They are all they same and are all 11595 (Mil-Spec) barrel steel. In some descriptions used by steel companies I have seen the Grade of CMV further listed as '41V45', which is a bit more descriptive, but probably just add confusion in this context.

So in describing a USGI M16/M4 barrel it is generally done this way on spec sheets:

    Barrel Steel
    Grade: 4150
    Specification: Mil-B-11595E
And then as part of the certification documents would be the chemical analysis to list CMV.

    Best.
