Where do you live? MOST free states don't require registration.

There is no federal requirement to register a gift gun.

Some states do some states don't.
Where are you? Maybe a resident who knows will come along.

The serial number is the one on the butt of the gun.

Oh, by the way, it is yoke, not yolk.

Greg- you have not told us what state you live in. In MOST of the US, there is not requirement to register a firearm with anyone- with the exception of machineguns, short barreled shotguns, etc. In the remainder, what you need to do, and who to do it with varies state to state. So.... where are you? The serial number of your S&W should be stamped on the bottom of the butt of the frame. Lose the x's and *'s, and we can help you better.

ADK8295 is the official serial number.
The other string is an assembly number used to keep parts together at the factory until the gun is finished and issued its serial number.

NRA ILA says there is no gun registration in Florida and the state preempts firearms regulation so you can't get caught out by a local ordnance.

I assume your CCW license does not show the individual gun allowed.

I'm happy to live in the state of Florida where a gun can be purchased from a previous owner and the only requirement is a valid Florida drivers license.
In your case, no transfer is necessary. The only thing a potential gun owner needs to be aware of is that anyone convicted of a felon is not lawfully able to own ANY firearm. If you do not fall into this category, nothing needs to be done. The pistol is now yours, and no paperwork with anyone is necessary.

EDIT: Obviously, you do not fall into the category listed above or you would not have a CWP.

Some counties in FL require a waiting period & police approval before obtaining a handgun. You may want to look it up in ATF P5300.5.
