    "Why not send it back to remington in NY"............Remington will not work on 'obsolete' guns, the m-81 was discontinued in the 1950's

    Thanks for the input. Tried Remington Corp. with no luck. I hate to relegate the rifle to the "junk" closet because it has a really pretty walnut with what appears to be ivory inlay in the stock. Thanks again for trying to help, I appreciate it.

    there is not much to the insides i have fixed a couple sounds like one of the small parts in the action might have come loose

    Try williamsguns@yahoo.com for parts. You didn't mention it, but you are aware there is a bolt release lever on the left side aahead of the trigger.

    Yes sir, on the bolt release. Thanks though, I have been guilty of over looking the simple things on more than one project in the past! The bolt actually closed before I left this rifle with a local g-smith for 26 months while he " searched" for parts and when I finally decided to try something else, I picked up the rifle and the bolt was open and was told he couldn't get it closed after he put it back together.
