Unusual Proto-type Muzzel Loader / Cartridge Combo
This looks to me like a Late 1800's Octogon Barrel Loader that has been modified (mid barrel) to accept rim fire cartridges. The first 8 inches of the 24 inch barrel has an insert making the barrel from a 50 Cal.? down to a 22 Cal. The insert is held in by a roll pin. The barrel is notched out at the end of this 8 inches (one inch opening) The remainder of the barrel has a long solid rod/firingpin. When the hammer is released it slams this rod forward striking what ever bullet was inserted into this plug. There is a nice Blacksmith?/Gunsmith release built into the barrel for the rod mid barrel....I have a few pics but dont know how to attach or post. all this gun has on the barrel (I did not take apart) (No gunsmith skills) is CREEDMOOR and Pat. There are some number of German Zimmerstuzen rifles made that way for indoor shooting before accurate air rifles were developed. Maybe some gunsmith saw one and did his own.
