    Hello,

It is a Second Model, and Yes, it was originally case color finished. The DOM is June 1901.

The butt stock is most likely originally from a Model 62/62A.

The overall graded condition of the rifle is not good enough to warrant spending any additional $$$ trying to make it any better. If you paid more that $250 for it, you are going to be in the hole on it.

nice find. if you just want more orginal shaped butt stock i believe Brownells sells the set (butt & forearm) for around $35. nobody on the planet knows more about gun value than Bert H. so just in case you gave a little more than what was recomended your in the same boat as me. i found a model 1906 a while ago and paid a bucket full more than its real worth but it was what i wanted. besides, i don't want any left over money stuck in the coffin with me on that last day anyway

You may as well spend a few more dollars and replace the stock and have it sleeved. At least you will have a fun, usable shooter.
