30/06 lever action??
I was talking with a fellow firearm nut at work today and he says he has an old lever action 30/06 that he inherited from his dad years ago and it has a tubular magazine, and the shells are inserted through the side like a typical lever action. He says he takes it out a few times a year and puts a few rounds through it. With round nosed ammo only. Now i always thought that the lever action design wasn't strong enough for high velocity type cartridges. He forgot what make and model this was so any one here have any idea who made this or better yet have a pic of one?

Never heard of such a thing. The Winchester 1895 lever action was made in .30-06 but has a box magazine.
Confusion happens. My Uncle had no doubt for all his 97 years that his Army issue Springfield in the 1920s was a .30-30.0 -

I remember a G&A article when upon the introduction of Hornady's LeverRevolution ammo, the author quipped something to the effect that he preferred the accuracy of rounds through the barrell as compared to those fired through the mag tube.
As Hawk Curse noted, the 1895 is a box magazine rifle and is available in a variety of calibers. The 30-06 was developed to take advantage of the improved ballistics of the spitzer bullet to replace the round-nosed 30-03 that originally fed the 1903 Springfield Rifle, and as such, one would doubt that there ever was a tube magazine lever action manufactured for the round.

Though the 1895 action can handle the pressures generated by the 30-06 round, I can tell you from personal experience that the power generated by it in so light a platform beats the hell out of one's shoulder.[:)]0 -
thats pretty much what i was thinking. that it had to be a design something like my win 88 in 308. and he was mistaken in where the mag was located and how it was loaded. 0 -
If your coworker is sure of what he has why not hit him up for pictures of his tuburlar mag 30-06 lever rifle. In the day and age of digital cameras it should not be too tough to get some decent pics and post them. Along with make and model number...... 0 -

The Remington 14 & 141 pump guns had a spiral tube magazine. Ed0 -
Might be a BLR 81 , they look like they have a Magazine Tube , but load with a clip . The Browning and the Win 95 are the only long action levers that I know of ! 0 -

A lot of those were made in 35 whelen, I use a 35 whelen clip in my 30-06, just wondering if the shells are interchangable and he is shooting the wrong caliber out of his gun?0 -

Quite unlikely. The '35 Whelen' you mentioned (and the possibility of the wrong cartridge) references a pump rifle [item in blue, above]. OP's rifle is a lever. Best, Joe0
