german m35 helmet painted ?? help
Greetings and salutations to all, I need to ask all the german helmet experts a question. I just recently acquired an "attic fresh" G.I. bring back m35 helmet but it has the wermacht eagle and tri color PAINTED on. I have had other helmets with decals but never a painted insignia before. Stamped in the metal is a "4" on the rear inside and what looks like "3E66" or "3E68" on the side inside. The eagle is done very well, so my question is real or fake. Any genuine help is appreciated. Danke.Salamat.

Congrats on the find.
Some were painted on early on, but without photos I can't give it a thumbs up or down.
The 3E6? is the shell size and if you have to find a liner, you must determine if it's a 6 or an 8.
Your knowledge and input on these types of items was sorely missed during your absence.0 -
here they are
it has liner but the leather is extremly dry and flaky.0 -
I believe those are genuine period insignia, but I also remembered an account years ago that even though they look painted, they are actually decals.
Either way, that helmet looks like a very early '35.
Check the air vents - shaped metal (late) or rivets (early)0 -
holes are shaped/stamped not riveted., thank you for the help. 0 -
Looks good from here. 0
