Can you tell me if a S&W model number m586-1 is stainless steel?...i can only find blued guns with that model number.

All Smith 586 guns are non-stainless steel, by definition. The vast majority of them are blued steel, though I think there are a few out there with a nickel finish.
By company convention, all Smith stainless steel model guns start with the digit "6".
The stainless version of the gun you are referring to is the Smith 686.

Thanks....i have a 586 and knew the 686 was stainless but there is one listed on here and the seller says it's stainless steel. 0 -
If he says he has a 686 in stainless he is correct. If he says he has a 586 in stainless, he is probably confusing a nickel gun for stainless. Its been done before. 0
