Ruger 44 Mag Carbine

I have a Ruger 44 Mag Carbine that jams and won't eject the shells. It was sent to Ruger and they don't make the part it needs anymore. I would like to know what part would it have been and does anyone have any suggestions on how we may fix it.

    Check with Ruger to see what part it needs. Then get a parts list so you know what the part is. Then start checking around: perhaps http://www.gunpartscorp.com or http://jackfirstgun.com

    This is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Take it to a competent gunsmith. He will have to disassemble it to find out what part(s) have to be replaced. If new replacement parts aren't available he will have to procure used part(s), from one of the on-line parts dealers.

    Just to eliminate the obvious, I have a 99/44 and the ejector is part of the magazine - yours is not this version, correct?

    I'm assuming it is the older carbine that looks like the 10/22.

    This older version could only shoot jacketed as it a gas operated action and leading would plug the port.

    Both versions do - the old model has a tube mag, the newer (but still discontinued) model has a rotary mag.

    The newer mag fed version was more of a Mini 14/M1 Carbine style action vs 10/22.

    I have had quite a few of these over the years (I love 'em) and only a few have had issues and they were exactly as you described. One just needed a thorough cleaning, another needed the extractor filed (by a competent gunsmith) and two had weak or broken ejector springs.
    One more thing, many of mine were finicky about shooting all lead bullets, it would often mash the lead just enough on the feedramp or feed lips to not smoothly go into the chamber. However, if yours feeds but not ejects I can't imagine that being the problem. I usually shot jacketed hollow points though them.

    These were all the original tube-mag design. I don't like the Mini type.

    I have one of the newer Deerfield .44 carbines. It is important to use full power "factory" magnum ammo in them to assure proper functioning. It says something about that in my Ruger manual, I'll have to dig it out.
