Benelli Recoil Problem

I bought a 12 ga. Montefeltro that has the inertia recoil system and it kicks like a mule. I didnt realize how bad until this weekend when I shot a friend's, it was night and day. I took the bolt apart and the spring is fine and everything else seems fine. Before I send it back, anyone else ever run into this problem and is there a quick fix I might be missing? I thought maybe the spring might have been installed backwards, but it is symetrical....

    Are you saying two identical Montefeltro's shooting the same ammo have darastically different recoils? Do they both have the same recoil systems in their stocks?

    I use Benelli Super 90's in 3 gun competition all the time. A friend of mine will only shoot a Rem 1100 because he cannot tolerate the recoil the lighter weight Benelli's produce.

    If you are saying two identical guns shooting the exact same ammo have different recoils, then maybe he has the mercury-filled recoil reducer installed: http://www.benelliusa.com/parts_and_accessories/miscellaneous.php

    However, if he has a heavier, or gas-operated gun then the recoil could be lighter. I do think the Benelli has a faster recoil impulse than many guns but in now way untolerable. I have shoot over 200 rounds of 3.5" shells in a day with it. Not particularly pleasant, but survivable. [:I]

    You can also get the newer versions with the Comfor-tech stock in it or replace the recoil pad with the newer designed models or add the recoil module I linked to above. I have the Super Black Eagle 1 and a friend has the exact same gun but in the SBE II format with the newer stock and it does lower recoil but I like the feel (shape) of the original one better. The friend that has the SBE II says if it wasn't for the cleaning hassles of a gas gun he might switch to one of the Beretta models because of its lower recoil but doing a thorough cleaning on a Benelli takes minutes where cleaning a gas gun takes much, much, much longer...

    Forgive me if this is a bit off topic. In addressing the issue of shooting lots in one day. How a gun is held and operated during hunting/target shooting is vastly different from that done in tactical training. How you carry and bring the gun up on target is not even close to the same. If I had to shoot 100 rds of "bird shot" in a hunting/trap stance I would think my arm would fall off. The first time I went through tactical training they said "bring 300 bird, 50 00 Buck, and 50 slugs". I was worried. We shot them all and I was not even sore. If you look at any news reel of the troops holding their AR you'll see what I mean. They or I do not recommend that you carry your regular gun this way but in a tactical situation there is nothing better.

    Yep Lefty same gun, neither has been added too and same ammo.

    Same choke tube?
    Seems to me that a bad spring would cause function problems rather than recoil problems. Actually, maybe a weak recoil spring (the one in the stock) might cause more felt recoil. I think you can get different springs from Wolff.

    EDIT: You can get a better Wolff spring with 25% extra power. Seems that people like it too.
