    Hello 57rooster,
The finger-grooved-stock Model 67 were not drilled and tapped at the factory for a scope, so the spacing difference between the front and rear was likely determined by whatever scope bases the gunsmith that did the work had on hand at the time that fit the contour of the receiver.

If the rifle is functioning correctly, the extractor/ejector should not have to be pushed forward to the breach face to feed a .22L.R. cartridge. If the bullet is inserted into the chamber, and the front of the rim is against the extractor, the cartridge should feed when the bolt is closed.
