Is this a SW Model 17 (K-22)?

This was my grandfathers and from what I can tell from the Standard Catalog, this is a Model 17, or K-22 depending on the year of manufacture.

    You have identified it correctly. Without a serial number I can't tell you whether it is a K-22 or Model 17. The grips with the uncheckered diamond around the grip screw place it as an early gun and probably better made than later guns. You have a fine pistol.

    Its a pre model 17 K-22. That upper sideplate screw places it at 1955 or earlier. Smith didnt begin using model numbers until 1957, so it has to be a pre-model 17 K-22.
