Peabo, sounds like a "Beech" front sight. Lyman and Marbles I believe both were used, Bert can tell you what was an option.

That's what it sounds like to me, too.

The few I have all fold forward, repro's and vintage, Marbles and Lyman. I like to use them in combination with tang sights, fold them both down and use the barrel sights.
The Number 71 Beech Sight was an option on the 1906. For a whole $2.50! They run about $75-$175 now.

More than likely it is a Lyman No. 5 combination sight versus a Beach combination sight. By the time the Model 1906 was introduced, Lyman had discontinued the Beach in favor of the No. 5 series sight.

The Lyman No. 5 combination sight was a special order sight on almost every Winchestere model, and when factory installed, it was very frequently accompanied by a Lyman No. 1 or a No. 2 tang sight.

Thanks for the help everybody, I really appreciate it.

Have more questions coming later about a custom Mauser in 250 Savage caliber coming soon. Stay tuned.

    Thanks---Peabo
