Hy Hunter .22 revolver

Ok guys, I mentioned in a previous post that I inherited a S&W model 10-5 and you've provided me with a ton of information that I asked for. So here's another question for you. I also inherited a small single action .22 revolver marked Hy Hunter. A forum search didn't turn up a whole lot of information so I'd like to see what you guys can tell me about it. I know it was made in West Germany by Sauer and imported by Hy Hunter in Hollywood, Ca. This gun is in pretty sorry shape but appears to have been decently made and I'm guessing that it's going to be fun to shoot. I do need some new grips for it because both of these are cracked. I'd like to know where to look, what size to look for, etc. Also, any other history that you can provide is greatly appreciated as always. Thanks guys and have a great weekend.

    You already know just about everything you might need to know. Hy Hunter imported guns in the 1950-1968 period; most were a little better than the later RG's, but not much. I had one of their 2-shot derringers, & internal parts broke & the chrome peeled in short order.

    I don't think you will find parts anywhere except the online auctions. They made several variations of your gun, so, since you failed to provide photos, I see no way we can help you find replacement grips.

    In excellent condition your gun would sell for ~ $150, so you probably don't want to spend too much to repair it.

    Edit: Your gun appears similar to the Colt Frontier Scout, & a few other variants. You may find Colt grips will work with minor fitting, or maybe Jay Scott has an exact match.

    Well sir, you've already helped just by giving me the time period! As far as fixing it up, I'm more interested in doing it just for personal satisfaction rather than increasing value. In this condition, it's pretty much worth nothing and would never be for sale anyways. I may try my hand at one of those do-it-yourself bluing kit things eventually. I didn't post pictures because I thought someone might be able to tell me where to find grips based on what I said the gun was. I had no idea they made several different models. Mine is the western six shooter model. I'm heading to work tonight so I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. In the meantime, if anyone else has anything to add, I love learning about this old stuff.

    I'm guessing this is what you have. I have both .22 & magnum cylinders for this one. Although not much value & certainly no collector interest, it is the best damn snake gun I have ever owned.

    clays: that is indeed the one I have. Do you have any idea where I could find grips for it? Or know what size grip frame to look for aftermarket grips for?

    Rufe! That's a GREAT link. Thank you! I will be placing an order for sure. Now one more thing, the pin that slides into the cylinder holding it in the frame is all chewed up from bubba taking it out at some point with a pair of pliers. I'd like to replace it and order the part when I order the grips but I'm not sure what it's called. Can you help me out here? Cylinder pin maybe? There's an exploded diagram that shows the part and a number that corresponds with the name of the part but unfortunately, that particular number cuts off in the picture on my screen. I can't see what it says.

    Base pin is the name of the pin that goes through the center of the cylinder? $40 sounds like a great deal. Hopefully yours is in better shape than mine. But I certainly wouldn't complain about an inherited gun regardless of condition. How do you like yours? How does it shoot? I haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet. I'm kinda dragging my feet to wait till it's fixed up real nice.

    I got to put about 25 rounds through mine this evening. It's definitely a nice little plinker! I'm pretty happy with it
