    That was most likely a very beautiful shotgun in it's day, but should be destined only for decoration now. I will repeat that in laymans terms...DO NOT SHOOT IT. It appears that it has Damascus twist barrels on it, and as such, would be unsafe to shoot with modern loads. It is still a beautiful old wall hanger.

    If it doesn't have any German proof marks it was made prior to 1891, when their proof law went into effect.

    I agree with TSR because of the age, ( 119+ years ), and condition it should be considered a wall hanger/conversation piece.

    Agree with TSR, it has Damascus barrels and is a bit "off the face" too (gap between barrels and breech.) A novelty item, not a shooter.

    Congratulations on your purchase!

    This is a good example of 19th Century German craftsmanship. As you state, it will be a great project for cleanup and slight repairs. It will display beautifully in your home.

    The trigger guard and underlever make it slightly unique for the U.S. market.
