S & W model 66-3 Snub Nose Worth?

I'm thinking of selling my S & W 66-3 snub nose however, I'm not really sure what the worth of this firearm in today's market is.

I'm the original owner of this revolver. It was purchased new back in 1989 or 90. Very few rounds shot thorough it. Less then 300. Has the original Uncle Mike's combat grips and I have the box that it came in.

Someone told me that this model 66-3 with the 2 1/2 barrel is very popular and I've checked GB last 2 weeks and nothing there.

    I bet you would see about $475-575 for this revolver at auction.

    He does not have the box and paperwork so yours may bring a higher price if its in the same or better condition.

    You don't see many on the auction side, as they are like the next best thing to a snub nosed Colt Python. They surely don't stick around long. That said, condition is everything, and to give a real accurate evaluation, pictures would be nice, however, with your wording, CS8161 is pretty close with his estimate.

    Please let me know if you put it on the auction side.

    Yes, they are popular. The model 66 and model 19 revolvers with 2 1/2" barrels are not nearly as common as the 4" and 6" versions so they tend to go for more money. I have 2 of the snubby 66's. You should be able to get $450 to $550 or more if its in excellent condition.

    Range on completed auctions in the last 90 days on these is about $460-$550. In the condition you describe, I'd think yours would auction out near the higher end of that range.

    One fetched over $700, but that one was a model 66-1 (lower "dash" is worth more) and in like new condition in original box.

    I just sold my 66-1 2 1/2in in about 80% cond. for $450. It sold very quick [;)]

    Actually I'm torn between letting her go and keeping her. She's been by my side now for 20+ years and to be perfectly honest with you all it shoots like a dream with single action. It's the double action pull that's a bit too long when it comes to rapid fire. I'm thinking of a ACP type firearm to replace it but something solid, keeping away from polymares if I can.

    Any suggestions for a replacement would be appreciated.

    If your torn between selling & keeping it and you sell it, in a couple years you will be kicking yourself saying, "damn, why did I sell that nice revolver".

    Now, if your determined to get an "ACP type" gun you cant go wrong with a 1911a1 .45acp. Colt, Springfield, Kimber all make good guns.

    Yeah, you're probably right about kicking myself in the arse if I do.

    My plan was to perhaps get $800.00 for it, also would include several quick loaders and the pouches, a belt holster, shoulder holster and a box of 38 rounds with the sale. The money would be to purchase a Mossberg 590A and an ACP .

    Selling it and making the purchases that way would detract the wrath of my wife as opposed to just keeping it and just buying the shotgun outright.

    However, I too was thinking it might be worth about $600.00 just wanted to get the expert opinions. Thanks all, and thank you CS8161 for the link to the 66-3 on GB. It must have come on the site after I quit looking for one to follow.

    I think your numbers are a little on the high side. I don't think you will get 600 or even 800 with all the extras.

    I think those are fine guns, I sold one once and have kicked myself since. Now, I have a couple and I ain't interested in getting rid of them.

    I would save up your money and keep the 66. They don't make it any longer so it will only continue to rise in value.
