Cannon?

Hello all,it's been awhile since I posted here.
I have an opportunity to buy a Winchester manufactured 10ga. salute cannon but I have no idea what it's worth. The seller says it was made in 1950. It appears to me that all parts are original. Anyone know anything about these and what something like this might be worth? Thanks.

    They are still made...not by Winchester. There are a number of different incarnations and they all seem to sell in the $600 area as I recall. Google them.

    I don't know how to check but Some of these are Not legal to own with out a I think a $200.00 tax stamp because they will fire normal 10 Ga. shells along with 10Ga. blanks. Do you know if it has steel wheels or rubber tires[?] Again I think this is how you tell if legal or not.

    XXCross, I googled it and found that Winchester sold the patent and rights in the 1970's. This cannon is reputedly made in 1950 by Winchester Repeating Arms. It should be worth more $$ than the newer one's made by other companies?[?]
    Perry shooter, this cannon does have the steel wheels. Does anyone know how I can determine if it is legal to own without a permit?

    They all are legal. Always have been.
    Bellmore-Johnson made them for Winchester.

    If its the Want-ad digest cannon......he is asking way too much ! I would think its worth half what he wants. I sold one about 7 years ago with a low hundreds serial number for $300. He also has another cannon I know nothing about.

    What I'm finding on the internet is that Winchester Repeating Arms manufactured these at their New Haven plant from 1901 thru 1952. After that period they were made by another company.
    Nyforester, was the cannon you sold manufactured by Winchester or by another company? The reproductions can be bought now for around 6-$700.00 new.
    Does anyone know if the cannon's manufactured by W.R.A. are valued higher?[?]

    bought mine on the auction side for about 500.00 originals will be stamped not for ball..they will accept 10ga ammo but it will loosen the breech,,i have seen vidio of idiots doing it and seeing the cannon skid across the lawn 15 feet..perfectly legal to own..about 1.50+ a shot..the company that makes then now makes bigger ones

    The Winchester cannons do not have serial #'s, The Winchester made cannons are worth much more than the new models. I have seen them in excellent condition sell in the 8-900 range.

    Just a guess, but I would think the cannon would be legal if the barrel was long enough. Someone on the forum can probably tell you what the minimun legal barrel length is. I like this topic and I have always been interested in cannons.

    the numbers you see under the barrel and ring are assembly numbers..they were never serial numbered

    Has nothing to do with barrel length.

    IF it is muzzle loading and black powder there are basically no rules.

    IF it is breach loading and over 0.50" bore then it is a DD and would need to follow all NFA rules.

    I am not sure on the rules with the cannons this thread is talking about as I have not seen one.
