Ruger p-95 aftermarket magazine cap?

There is an aftermarket magazine for the Ruger p-95 that has a stated capacity of 30 rounds. Just what does that mean? Will it provide a higher than normal capacity with acceptable reliability? I am considering purchasing one for my P-95 and am interested. Thanks!

    A stated capacity of 30 rounds means the magazine is supposed to holds 30 rounds. No mystery there.

    In terms of reliability, generally speaking the super-extended pistol magazines are **NOT* quite as reliable as stock magazines, and in some cases they are fairly UNRELIABLE.

    Note that I'm not saying that this is the case with the 30-round mags for this particular gun. The videos above seem to show these working OK. You'd have to test one in your particular gun to determine reliability.

    There is really no intrinsic reason why a super extended mag can't be as reliable as a stock one. For example, the submachine gun mags for Stens and Uzis are fairly reliable and so are the extended 33-round Glock mags. However, in practice the aftermarket pistol ones seem not to be.

    Personally speaking, I rarely load my mags past 5 rounds at the range (even the ones that hold 15+ rounds). This helps me concentrate on making each shot count and gives me extra practice changing mags. Super-high caps just increase the tendency to waste ammo.

    Outside the context of submachine pistols (which are not available in Ruger 95s) I see literally no practical use for these mags, other than as a range novelty. They're simply too bulky for carry, and the possibility of malfunction, I think, means you're going to be better served just carrying an extra 15-rounder on your person if you need the capacity.
