What can you tell us about a Winchester, Model 70 in 220 Swift serial number 7xx. I know with out a picture its hard to tell value, the condition is about 90%. I would appricate any other info someone would want to throw in.

    Thank,you

the barrel will fit the action but may not 'time' correctly (you have a 1/360 chance of it being 'right')

If the "timing " is not perfect to headspace and allign sigths, etc. can it be adjusted and how ?
    thanks

    nitsa216,

The timing of a barrel is controlled by the shoulder locking up against the front face of the receiver. To adjust the timing you need to use a lathe to set the shoulder back to get the barrel to rotate further around. Then you need to gauge the headspace and adjust it with the proper reamer.

If this rifle has other barrel features such as the external claw extractor and coned breech then these features have to be adjusted as well.

There's more to it than this but this is the quick answer. I suggest taking the barrel to a gunsmith in order to get it done right.

    Best.

thank you for your helpfull response.
I have no intention of doing this myself. For a professional gunsmith in the business of rebarreling actions, would they be able to accomplish the barrel/caliber conversion to my LH M 70 action, given another M 70 barrel( same generation and family of cartridge - ie . belted mag )?
Would this swap( I would swap barrels from RH to the LH , and vice versa, if possible, be terrible costly ?
    thanks

you would be money ahead to just sell the rifle you have and buy what you want.

Here is a barrel without stampings or roll marks to contend with that may go pretty cheap.
