Drop In AR15 Piston Conversion Kit?
Looking for a drop-in AR15 Piston Conversion Kit that doesn't alter the rifle besides changing out the internal gas tube impingement system and came across the following below, would this work, as I do not want to alter the outside of the rifle at all;

I've put in a few for friends, Osprey manufacture and some brand I can't recall. About the only external difference I see is the larger handguards. CDNN has this version, no idea who makes it or how well it works, but it seems simple and inexpensive if one wants to go with a piston type.

Looks fine but I would rather go with the Osprey Defense AR15 Gas Piston Retrofit Conversion Kit, being that it doesn't seem to alter anything on the outside of the rifle and appears to actually be a 'drop-in' kit even more so than the BushMaster or the New American Tactical.

I think you should go with the Osprey Defense unit. After all, that is the one you stated you would rather go with it, and from there on, anything anyone else would suggest would be mundane, and chastised. So I say go for it...but it has yet to be proven that a GP AR is more reliable than a Gas Impingement system AR...if that is what you are trying to accomplish. However, it has been proven that the GI AR's are more accurate than the piston driven ones.

Maybe MOA, but doubtful. More like 1.5-2MOA realistically. Think about it...you are basically taking an AR-15 and making it like a Mini 140 -
I don't know about being chastised, however I did state initially what I was looking for and so yes the Osprey seems to be the obvious choice then. As stated my preference is to not alter the outside of the rifle although other opinions may vary which they normally do, usually greatly and so as long as the rifle is capable of moa or close then it should be fine. 0 -
Just to add, the only problem I've ever had is with a type that uses the bolt on key to the carrier as opposed to a new carrier with integral key - screws sheared off one key, kind of a pian to correct. I don't use the GP set up myself. 0 -

Why the so-called drastic loss in accuracy, as that makes no sense and is certainly not what I have heard and read about and what is an AR14, as I was not aware of that model.0 -
I installed a adams arms kit on an upper awhile back, and groups didnt open up that much at all, the barrel was heavy..
my understanding is that piston systems can effect barrel harmonics beyond just the added weight. Timeing/movement have to be just right or groups will open up.. Also if the bolt carrier is tilting due to unsquare piston strikes, that could cause accuracy/reliability problems.0 -

Okay good to know, thanks, the Osprey comes with a new Solid Billet Bolt Carrier amongst other parts.

AR-14...typo...AR-15.
That is not a real drastic loss...still better than most mini 14's, and definately better than an AK. The loss is because you have something that moves attatched to the barrel, constantly changing the harmonics...albeit very little.0 -

Very well I see, then I will just have to compensate if that is in fact the case, as I don't believe that applies to every conversion kit and scenario however.0
