belgium browning o/u

I have a Browning o/u made in belgium that my friend bought new in the early 50s. It has 30in brls both full choke , 12ga 2 3/4 shells.
My question is: can this gun shoot the new 2 3/4 shells of today.
I always wanted a Browning o/u for hunting phesant & grouse but i'm wondering if I would be better of getting a newer o/u for hunting?

    No problem shooting newer 2 3/4 shells, except as the Browning dates to the 50's, it was made for lead shot. You probably would be better off with a newer shotgun with screw in chokes that are made to handle steel shot, that have to be used nowadays in a lot of places. Also full choked guns aren't normally used for pheasant and grouse, you hit one of those little suckers with a 1 1/4 OZ of 7's shell from a full choke not going to be a heck of a lot left to take home.

    Even if you can still find shells loaded with Bismuth shot, I would have to say that the O/U you've described would not be the best choice for your needs. Brownings are notoriously over choked, under bored and the F&F configuration was probably intended for ducks and geese. This gun would not like steel shot in any form. You deside.

    being that you need steel shot for ducks and geese. and i cant shoot steel, is there anyway to open the choke so i can use it for phesant and grouse?

    I'm not sure if there is a way to tamper with adjusting the choke or not, but I would suggest you leave the gun alone and not modify it in any manner. I personally have a Browning Lightning 20 guage manufactured in 1956 and would NEVER tamper with it in any way.

    While the particular shotgun you have described may not meet the specific need you have at the present time, to change the configuration in any way is not suggested. Not only will a modification devalue this fine firearm, but some potential collector value may be lost. Anyway, my two cents.... If this type of hunting is what you are into, I suggest the purchase of another firearm for this activity.

    If you like the shotgun then have choke tubes installed, this will not hurt the value (unless it is like 'new'). Browning SUPERPOSED shotguns are ment for hunting and targets, not to sit in a case.

    If you always wanted a Browning o/u for hunting pheasant & grouse and are open to getting a another o/u for hunting them, why not spend less than a new Browning O/U and get another old Browning with shorter barrels and imp cyl/Mod chokes.?

    Thanks everyone. I think i'll just see about trading this gun for one that works for hunting.
