need history on rifle
cal. 30-06, mauser modelo argentino 1909, deutsche waffen-und munitionsfabriken-berlin. this is what is written on rifle. all numbers match on gun. would like to know the history and value of the rifle. thanks for the help.

The gun was made in caliber 7.65 Argentine, not .30-06. Either it has been re-barrelled or re-chambered if it is in fact .30-06. Are you sure of the caliber? Mfg in Germany prior to WW1 on contract for the Argentine Govt. These are high quality guns and desirable. If it is as made it would be worth a good $350-400.00 0 -
barrel has same stamps as rest of gun. but it is stamped on barrel cal.30-06. gun is missing rear sight would like to find another for it. 0 -

Being rechambered to 06 and probably having the internal magazine altered for same, pretty much kills the value as far as a military rifle collector is concerned.
You might contact Gun Parts Corp, Jack First or Sarco, all are large dealers in obsolete gun parts. They might have the rear sight you need.0 -
A lot of importers rechambered these to 30-06 to make them more marketable with few alterations otherwise.
While a safe conversion, the issue is that the original 7.65 Argentine round used a .313" diameter bullet, while 30-06 uses a .308. The .005" of freebore leads to mediocre accuracy at best.
I have one of these conversions. I ended up neck reaming the brass to reduce thickness and using a .312" Hornady bullet. Shot much better after that. I couldn't use the 30-06 brass as it sat, as the fat bullet seated in a stock 06 case was very hard to chamber. But then I was using military brass, some comercial cases might work as is.0 -
seeing that this has no value as-is. is it possable to change the barrel on this gun to a 308 win. with out having to modify clip and bolt seeing it already set-up for 30-06 round. 0 -

If the barrel is chambered for 06 now it will have to be taken to a gunsmith to have the barrel removed, faced off in a lathe, more threads cut, then reattached to the receiver. As .308 & 30-06 have similar rim and body dimensions. Magazine and bolt won't have to be altered. I would just leave it in 30-06 though, save you a lot of money and hassle.0 -

Argentine M1909 Mausers have been used by the custom riflesmiths to make hunting rifles for decades.

Your rifle, having been converted is not worth very much, although in original condition unaltered, can command a very tidy sum.

The barrel can be replaced with a new .30 caliber barrel which can be chambered for the .308 Win. These two cartridges (7.65x53/.308 Win.) are similar enough to allow a simple replacement of the barrel with a new chamber barring any severe modifications to the action/magazine. I'm not sure what you mean by the term 'clip' as this rifle used stripper clips but they wouldn't require any modification for the .308 Win. at all. The bolt should not require any changes at all either.
The parts needing to be checked are the magazine box and follower. Sometimes these have been modified slightly but a gunsmith familiar with Mausers should be able to check this as well as test some .308 dummy rounds for feeding.
