I just was gifted an old Winchester Model 60, 22lr. single shot. Did a bit of research. Come to find out that my rifle has a Model 60a stock. Has the beveled forend tip. Barrel is 23". There's a one-piece tang sight set on the top of the wrist. Also a bullseye iron front sight with a hood. Anybody have any information on this rifle? Did the early Model 60s come with the 60a type stock? The wood doesn't appear to be walnut. Maybe gumwood? Please advise.

The early Model 60s did not use a 60A stock. The tang sight is a non-factory added item. The Model 60 was only in production for the years 1931 - 1934 before being replaced by the Model 67.

Would a Model 67 stock fit my Model 60?

I do not know... I have never tried it.

I'm a big fan of the model 60. Straight shooters. That's my favorite whistle pig gun and I shoot thousands of rounds with it each year. I love it so much that I have purchased several more so I can leave one to each of my heirs. Just hope they enjoy it as much as I have. Have many 22s but like this model the most. Some are walnut stock and others probably gumwood. Nice gift you got, in my opinion.[:)]

I thought the Model 60 was a semi auto rifle? When was it a single shot? What am I missing?

    The Winchester Model 63 is a semi-auto. The Model 60 has always been a single-shot bolt-action rifle.

    Marlin has a model 60 semi-auto.
