  I'd say no its not a common problem. Does the cylinder latch move back?

  They may just be sticky from old oil.

  I bet spider has pegged it. DID you ever spray it with WD40 [:(!][xx(][V]. That stuff turns to super glue when mixed with some oils. USE a hair dryer and some gloves . Get as hot as possible a hair dryer should not hurt the finish on grips or any metal parts . IF you dont have a hair dryer set it out in direct sun light . on a hot day.
