Help Me Pick A Scope
Hey Everyone,
I am in the process of still upgrading my Stag Arm AR-15. My next step is to put a decent scope on the detachable handle. I've heard wonderful things about the Weaver scopes / quick dot sights and I recently visited my local gun shop. While at the local gun shop, the Barska Electra Sight caught my eye. I like to shoot long range at times. I think once I put this on my rifle, that'll be done for upgrades.
Thanks for your input guys. How about this, whoever convinces me the best with a scope and description, I will personally send you an official Air Force T-Shirt from my base.

I wouldn't chose Barska, I've found their quality to be questionable in most of their other scopes. If you do a search on past topics, you can find out what most others think of them.
You didn't say how much you were willing to spend and that can be a big factor in any decision. Leupold, Bushnell, Simmons, Tasco, Hensholt, Svarovski, Zeiss, and Schmidt and Bender to mention a few can run the entire range from under a hundred or so to over $1000.00.
What kind of budget are you looking at?
I have a 1.5x6 Zeiss on mine, but that might not be the best scope for you.

Within the price range, you can go with multipower Burris, Weaver, and Pentax along with some other brands. Scopes are a personal thing and you almost have to look through each to determine which one seems the clearest and brightest to you.
One bad thing about many variable scopes is that the point of aim can shift as you change power, especially with the lower priced scopes. You get what you pay for.

Price and parameters are significant. I have a weaver v9 on my .270 its reliable and support is great. 0 -
Hello vin211---Most of the scopes are very good to excellent. With one glaring exception. That being SIMMONS!!!!!!!!!!!!Seriously if you gave me one, I would garbage it. Reason---Their service is nonexistent. You won't live long enough to get warranty service. Does that qualify me for a shirt??? Good luck HAWKSHAW 0 -
The new weavers, are excellent scopes, but their price is well....a little pricey for what they are. I would start with a Buris FullField II, or a Nikon Buckmaster, and go up from there. A 3-9 should get you out to 300-400 yards.

Hello vin211, the best feature of the AR15 weapons system IMO is its flexability. Uppers interchange with lowers in seconds, as I am sure that you are well aware. So I keep two complete uppers for my Bushmaster. The first is a 16" fixed carry handle dissapator setup and the second is a 24" bull barrel, always scoped, flat-top upper for target, varmint and longer range shooting. The scope I have mounted on it is a Burris Fullfield II 4x12x40 with their compensating bdc reticle. This combo for me works very well. 0 -
Well, there is two basic ways that I know of to shoot long range well, useing a reticle with hash marks andor dialing it in.
If low cost is your goal, as is mounting a scope on your carry handle then maybe a russian made scope will fit the bill. They are made by the same folks who build scopes for the russian military machine..
I have several of them, and the quality and consistantcy of the movements are on par with jap scopes that cost twice or three times as much, plus they have finger adjustable dials. I like the PO 4x24su. though they have a 4x and 8x version with dragunov range finding reticles..

I'd like to stay in the couple hundred dollar range. I will research the scopes you all have mentioned and go from there.

What do you consider long range? Under $200 gives quite a bit limitation for quality scope. You might want to consider the Made in the USA Redfield Revolution http://www.redfield.com/riflescopes - (now owned by Leupold). 
IMHO, it is far better than the Nikon. Both pictured for comparison are 4-9x40, if you shop hard enough, you can get the 4-12x40 accurange for under $200.

i have just purchased a truglo infinity target and varmit scope 4x16x44 mm black satin finish the clarity on this scope is excellent so is the operation of all knobs i paid less than 150.00 i bought it from cheaper than dirt you can go on their website and read the reviews you can also go on truglo website i am mounting it on my dpms ar style rifle in 7.62x39 it is going to be an excellent choice for hunting or target shooting the movement is one eighth of an inch per click at 100 yards i think you will like this scope hank k 0
