FLYING TO VEGAS AND GRAND CANYON FOR A WEEK . WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO TAKE MY GIRLFRIEND ELSIE WITH ME ; ALSO AMMO.CNA IT GO IN LUGGAGE???

    Better call your airline first to make sure they have no restrictions. Basic rules though ammo goes in a factory box separate from a TSA approved container for the gun. When you get to the check in counter you have to declare that you have a unloaded firearm to check and obviously you can't have any of that in carry on luggage. You didn't say if you had a carry permit or not and Nevada does not honor all the states permits--VERY foolish to try to carry concealed without one in Vegas. If you're just going to keep it in the room if there's a safe availble--use it when you're gone as you don't want housekeeping finding your piece.

    I'm gonna let someone else talk to ya on the Grand Canyon matter as to me thats a trickier one--first it was blocked that you couldn't then you can and I dunno what the exact status is of it now. Call the National Park Service and ask. http://www.nps.gov/index.htm

    but obviously that probably isn't going to fly inside the casino's.

    Different airlines have their own rules. I have only done this once. I inherated a M-1 & a couple of pistols about 5 years ago from a pal in Tampa. I knew all my airlines rules & was prepared. I gave his ammo to a LEO that happen by when I was cleaning out his home. The firearms were each in a locked case inside my lugguge. Actually I had to open them at the ticket counter in front of security and then relocked them. The luggage was marked as inspected and was checked in. Things went smooth. My only problem was walking into the Tampa terminal where there is a big sign "No Firearms" over the door. No problem though. Only thing I can see in your case is what are you going to do with her when you get there? If you have a carry permit in you home state it better be honored in NV & AZ or you have a problem.

    Too much hassle, too much red tape, & too much risk of ending up in an airport where simple possession can get you arrested. I take my chances when travelling.

    I always feel safe in Vegas. Most of my local time is spent along the strip, & I drive & park in lots. Sure, there are bad parts of town, but I have only seen them on Cops. Side trips outside of the city, I am more worried about carrying extra water.
