DOM of Two Winchester Shotguns
To all,
I recently picked up two very clean Winchester shotguns for a song and was looking for some information on the year they were possibly built.
The first one is an 8 shot Defender 1200 wearing wood stocks and take both 23/4 and 3" shells.
Nowhere on the shotgun can I tell if this is a true Winchester or a USRAC firearm.
Serial number is L12953xx.
Any idea on date of build or if it is a Winchester or USRAC would be helpful.
The other is a really nice Winchester 1300 22" barrel smoothbore(no choke tubes) and rifle sighted shotgun with Deer Slug on the barrel.
It is also drilled and tapped for scope bases.
It has a has hardwood birch stock with three diamond checkerings on the pump handles bottom with checkering on the sides of the pump handle and pistol grip area.
USRAC went absolutely crazy with various models before their demise and I have looked at three different values books and cant identify which model it is.
Someone suggested it was a Ranger but again there are no stamping that say that and most Rangers I have seen have the corn cob style pump handle which this one does not.
It also takes 2 3/4 and 3" shells as well.

Hello Mike,
On the USRACO guns, most often it was marked on the butt plate. If not there, the barrel should be marked with the Trade Mark symbol T
There are no serial number lists available for the USRACO manufactured guns.0 -
And that trade mark symbol would be??
It appears both guns have a small circled W on the barrel.
Any idea when the Defender was built?0 -

You might need some new reading glasses... I put the trade mark symbol in my first post (look closely an you will see a small superscript "TM" at the end of the sentence. In large letters, it looks like this...

Do either of the guns have "TRADE MARK" marked on the barrel? If they do, then they are USRACO made guns.

If you call Winchester Customer Service at (800) 945-5237, they will tell you the DOM's. 0 -

Customer service informed me that my 1200 Defender was made in 1978 which tells me it's a true Winchester.
The 1300 Deer Slug model is obviously a USRAC gun as it was made in 1997.
