Reloading Blanks
I'm a reloader and was wondering how to reload without the projectile for a 45 long colt. If anyone has done this, what do you use to seal the powder in the shell so that it still makes a loud report?

Use the fastest burning pistol powder you get get your hands on, i.e, Bulleye, AA 2, HP 38 etc.
Make a wad of TP and compress it on the powder. Compress the TP wad in the case. Secure it in place with molten glue from a glue gun.
Great caution is required when firing this though, the TP/glue projectile, could cause fatal injury at close range.
You will have to use trial and error to determine how much powder, size of TP wad, and amount of glue to use. depending how loud you want the blanks to be.0 -

I would use a very thin card wad (even one punched from card stock like 3 X 5 note cards) and held in place with fingernail polish. 0 -
Well, if you just want to make a "bang" you can always get one of these .45LC to .22 conversion kits then use cheap .22LR blanks.

As a secondary question, does anyone know of a reloading die available that will crimp the end of a case down somewhat like a professional blank (in any caliber?)
Just curious.
Note that even this sort of blank isn't totally safe. There is always some chance of the case fragmenting and sending brass shrapnel downrange, plus burning powder all by itself is potentially hazardous at close range.0 -

I know that CASS supplies its shooters with blanks for the mounted competitions. They may be able to supply some information if you contact them.
I believe they put walnut shell hull pieces to break the balloons so eliminate that of course.0
