Ranger .22 long rifle single action
My father inlaw gave me his old .22 just before he died and I am curious who made it and when, and if there is any value that I should insure it for? The rifle has no serial number and on the barrel, on top it says "22-LONG RIFLE" just in front of the rear sight and then on the action it says "RANGER". There is an "SVG" burnt into the stock on the left side almost to the butt. No magazine of any kind, strictly a single shot. It is in fair condition, no cracks in the wood and no real pitting in the metal, but bluing is faded on the breach. Barrel bluing looks good, as does the bore. Just curious about rifle, it is a momento more than anything else.

"Ranger" was a trade name used by Sears. The "SVG" indicates it was made by Savage-Stevens and may have been their Model 83.

Thanks Spider. That looks real close, although the stock on the one I have is smooth, no groves or indentations at all. Oh well gues it is just a keep sake and won't worry about it's value, except for the memory of my Father inlaw 0
