what might be the problem with this colt?

Please read his discription and tell me what you think is wrong. the delta gold cup uses the same safetys and sear disconnector set up as a series 80. the parts should be cheap to fix it and while I don't reccomend it, with a little figiting it goes together pretty easily.

    Sounds like it could #1 either the owner does not detail the failure correctly. He does say UNLOADED but neglects to say if an empty magazine is installed or not .The slide is locked back when and only when the magazine follower contacts the toe of the slide stop pin . NO MAG NO LOCK BACK if you "work the slide all the way back. #2 the slide stop pi may be a 45ACP pin that is just enough different from a 10MM pin that the magazine follower can contact the Slide stop pin .#3 Bubba has had his Hand on making the pistol BETTER then when it came from the factory.[:(][V]. I would ask the seller questions DID he try with both magazines when empty but fully seated in the pistol and if he did has anyone done any BLACK-SMITHING on the pistol if he bought it new. Could be an easy fix or NOT

    EDITDamn Bubba strikes again I did not look at the sellers pictures. [V][:(!]You would think when someone puts some MICKEY MOUSE after market Tactical part on a gun and it THEN starts to have a problem they would at least reinstall the original part I guess you Cant Fix STUPID

    I can only think of four things. perry shooter has already touched on operator headspace and the stop toe.
    The mag follower could also be tweeked or the stop reccess in the slide is worn.

    Querry the seller and see if you can get up close pics of the slide stop and the reccess in the slide.

    That does not look like a factory slide stop. Maybe not for that frame or installed incorrectly?

    Needs clarification, does the slide not lock back with an empty magazine in place? If not...

    Ad shows a Pachmayr slide stop. I don't think they make that one for anything but .45. Get a suitable part. Grieder makes one.

    I over looked that part, I would have to replace it with a factory slide stop for it to look right.

    Under the "simplest answer is the most likely answer" I go with mag follower not lifting the slide stop, due to the follower or the toe on the slide stop. With an aftermarket slide stop I suppose I'd go with that first. Either wouldn't cause me to pass on the deal and it seems a simple fix.

    If the current slide stop was put on by the seller, maybe shoot a question asking if the problem came up after it was installed?

    That is definitely a Pacmayr slide stop. Gun has seen some abuse. Not a bad project if the price was quite a bit lower.

    A little careful filing of the slide stop and / or slide stop notch in the slide sounds like it needs to happen.
    Also the slide needs to be tightened.
    Not a big deal in my book.
    The 11MM cartridge is at the top of powerful cartridges used in the 1911 frame. That in itself is abuse of a pistol having short rails.
    Once tightened up, I'd investigate recoil buffers and polyurethane bumpers.

    I can make that gun look brand new. I am realy good with the sand paper and a buffer and media blasting the grey parts works great.
    if it were a regular delta elite it definatly wouldn't be worth it but since it is a gold cup there is some room in the price. even and average GCDE should sell for double that..but you are right, this gun hss been used and abused.
