6 X 47/222 Mag

I have a 6 X 47 Contender barrel, made by MGM & uses the 222 Remington Magnum case as the "made from" parent case. I usually buy 222 Rem Mag cases, neck up in a single pass and am done. Problem is, finding 222 RM brass is a touch of a challenge - not huge, just a bit. The 204 Ruger is a 20 cal version of the 222 RM case, I'm wondering if buying 204 Ruger brass, very available and cheaper than 222 RM, then necking up to 6mm (24 cal) is viable or too much of a stretch, no pun intended. Does the neck end up too thin?

    i,m not sure without them in my hands... but, do you think it would be possible to fireform them from the 204?
    i use .223 to form my 6.5 tcu brass.

    Fire forming wouldn't be needed, aside from the neck diameter the cases are the same. I'm thinking if you can get from .223 to .264 diameter then .244 shouldn't be a problem. The 204 costs about $25.00 per 100, 222 RM is about $45.00 per 100.

    .204 Ruger has a shorter neck than the .222 Remington Magnum. The shoulder will obviously have to be pushed back somewhere around .064" to get the proper length, I think.

    Thanks for the info & lead - I ordered some brass and .257 dia bullets for the 25/35. Good prices, even on the "not on sale" stuff too.

    Good. I just got my new reamer for the 6x47 to replace my old one. I've made a couple of dozen of these for the small game depredation hunters. It's a superb cartridge with minimal recoil.

    I ordered 500 pieces to have on hand for future and current projects. I may order more at the same price if it holds for a little while longer.

    I h ave an old Sako in 6x47. Brass last so long that why worry about the small difference in cost. Hell Ive still got some old factory 6x47 brass from Federal that shows signs of lasting for many more firings. there will be 222 mag brass for another couple generations.
