Remington 721 iron sights
Can anyone tell me how the iron sights on a 721 are installed? Are they swetted on, welded or ?. How do you remove them, front and rear?
Thanks.
Thanks.

dthhal,
The Rem M721 was manuf. from 1948 to 1962. I can't say they are all the same, but the 3 examples I have from the middle '50s are alike.
The front & rear sights are both set in dove tail slots that are cut in their bases.
The front sight base is silver soldered to the barrel.
The rear sight base is a machined boss (dog knot) that is part of the barrel.
Hope this helps, Jim0 -
Thanks Jim. Thats what I was afraid of. 0 -
I had a 722 (the short action of the 721) that I was shortening the barrel on, way back in the mid 1980's. I had to use a hot torch to get the front barrel ramp off the part of the barrel I cut off. regular propane torch would not do it, I believe I had to use oxyacetylene. MAPP gas might do but I didnt have that 25 years ago. I reinstalled the ramp using a regular propane torch and brownells hi-force solder (with heat stop past in and around the barrel). It held up good, sold the gun several years after doing this and never had any issues with it. 0
