Need some expert advice!
Hello, I bought an early Smith+Wesson revolver and the previous owner filled in all the letters and the S+W emblem with white. I thought I could remove it with some gun cleaner and a soft toothbrush but no luck. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Acetone and a copper brush. When your done, wipe it dry, then wipe it down with an oily patch.

Nail polish remove is also acetone. That will remove "White Out". 0 -
Depends exactly what he filled it with.
White-out is one thing, white enamel another, and latex paint another thing yet.
But whichever it is, there is probably some combination of solvents and scrubbing that should get it out without hurting the gun.
-Wooden toothpicks, plastic picks; toothbrushes (hard or soft bristles), Q-tips, plastic/brass/copper gun brushes. . .good.
-Acetone/ethyl acetate nail polish remover*, "Goof-off", rubbing alcohol, gun-cleaner, gun-scrubber (ie brake cleaner), paint thinner, good.
Other organic solvents could also help, but with all of these BE CAREFUL. Most are highly flammable, and breathing vapors isn't good.
*Many nail polish removers now contain ethyl acetate instead of diluted acetone, since its a bit safer and less irritating. Its still a pretty good solvent.0 -
dotntony....I use fingernail polish with a toothpick to remove the silver/white/gold paint that folks like to put on guns. Follow up with a Qtip if necessary and then a good gun oil treatment. That should take care of it without harming the gun. 0 -
