S&W model 57

Regarding a 1980 version that is pinned & recessed in 4"...with all things equal...which is worth more...Nickel or Blued? And about how much? THANKS!!!

    Is it possible to find just the frame for a model 57? I have the rest of the parts. Okie joe

    Post a want ad on the Want Ad forum. You never know unless you try. Someone out there may have just what you need.

    It would be way easier IMHO to get hold of a standard "N" frame, which would be the same as the 57. S & W made a heck of a lot more 25's, 27's, 28's & 29's then they did 57's. As far as I know all would work OK with the parts you have for the 57.

    Rufe is right on the money, what you need is an N frame, they are all the same.

    Rufe, and the Capn, are on track. any old N frame with provisions for adjustable sights will do...can be any of the ones listed, or stainless if you wish.

    keep in mind though, it is not as simple as putting the puzzle together. The cylinder and barrel have to be fitted properly for headspace, barrel/cylinder gap, endplay, and timed.

    You will have to look for a donor firearm for to use the frame. I doubt that S&W would sell you a new one. Try on the auction side.

    One of the used gun parts places (eg Numrich) might have a spare Smith N frame to sell you.

    Edit:
    Of course, it won't be cheap, and you'll have to have it transferred via an FFL like a full firearm.

    Another possibility is to find a totally beat up N-frame gun cheap, then salvage out just the frame.
