SIG P6 Feed Ramp...Polish Or Not?
A friend bought from me a SIG P6 of 1980s vintage. He has asked me to arrange to have the feed ramp polished so it will feed hollow points. Someone told him the P6 was designed for FMJ bullets only.
He has not fired the gun yet, so he doesn't know if there will be a problem, even though I recommended to him that he shoot it first. He wants the job done before he fires it.
So, I found a feller with the proper tooling and know-how to do the job, and will get it done in the next few days.
I have a P6 that I kept out of the lot to transfer to my personal collection, to use for a house/car gun. I thought about taking it to the smith when I take the other guy's gun, and having its feed ramp done too. Today, just for grins, I ran a mixed bag of 9mm ammo through it today, using three different mags. Some ammo was FMJ, and there were at least two different HP bullets in the lot. All rounds fed, fired, extracted, and ejected, just as they should.
I thimk I will "wait and see," and run a few more different bullet designs through my gun before spending money on it. What do you think?

P6 feed ramps were improved after - IIRC - mid-'89. As long as your's is a later model you shouldn't have a problem with HP's, but from what I've heard they don't handle the heavier, longer (147 gr.) bullets well.
SIG's date codes on their German manufactured pistols can be easily decoded. They skip the letter I, with A thru K translating to 0 thru 9. For example, G/JK would be a June '89 pistol.
One way or another, just compare your's with these in the pic. The ramp on the right is the older style and the left is the newer contour.

If yours is post '89 I'd let it be and stay away from 147 grain.
I'd take TXS advice and compare yours to the pictures he posted.0
