Best bet for front sight adjust on pistol?

Got a pistol shooting high to the left...

Whats the best appoach to adjusting the front sight to compensate?
Rear sight is just a v notch with no way to change.

    # 1 . try different ammo, lighter/heavier bullet..and velocity differences will affect bullet flight.
    # 2. are you sure you are not affecting the high and left with your trigger pull and grip?
    # 3. before I would do any work on the front sight/barrel--- if the shot placement is only a little off I would stick with one brand and type of ammo and compensate for the difference by holding the sights off the target in the opposite amount .( low,right ) But I would only do this if the pistol is used for informal target shooting. for any other use ,personal protection,hunting etc. I would take to a good pistolsmith and let them do their magic.

    You have a problem on your hands. To get a pistol shooting to desired point of aim, if it's shooting high with a fixed rear sight. You have to raise the front sight. Also it has to be moved to the left, if it's shooting to the left.

    Years ago I had a similar problem, had a gunsmith remove the front sight and dovetail the slide for a aftermarket front sight. Because it was fitted in a dovetail it could be adjusted for windage and being oversize it could be filed down for the correct elevation.

    Rufe, as usual, has it.

    Before doing ANYTHING, I'd ask myself how far off its shooting, and how much it really matters for what you are trying to do with the gun.

    For example, a snubnose J-frame 38 revolver shooting a few inches off at 25 yards? Eh. . .close enough.

    Also, in some cases its possible to change the point of impact with different loads, and even (in some cases) different grips!
